The City of Calgary is exploring developing a Penalties Appeal Board for minor infractions including parking and transit tickets. This would replace the current process of hearing these appeals in Provincial Court.
The Penalties Appeal Board could improve customer service by providing a dispute process that is faster, more efficient and more convenient than the current provincial court-based system. This is an opportunity for The City to improve customer service and achieve better outcomes for Calgarians while supporting community safety by freeing up Court capacity for more serious charges.
In March 2021, The City sought input to help create a system that is accessible and achieves better outcomes for Calgarians. Learn more about the public engagement and project timeline.
